Koru Māmā

Change Agents Jo Flavell and Ren Joe obtained a small amount of funding to create a few sessions for local māmā who wanted to connect and kōrero about the journey that is motherhood. Thank you to the John Illot Charitable Trust for the funding to make this HEART / Rākau Tautoko kaupapa happen.

There was a low take up by participants but after many hours of promotion, there was enough people to go ahead! We were offered a wonderful space to meet at Glen Innes Family Centre and were supported by Staci there in promotion and the possibility of ongoing resources for māmā following on from their connection with us.

Unfortunately during sessions, numbers dwindled and we had very low participation, which we found was a similar story to many providers in these days and times.

Even though our numbers were low, the feedback from mums that did attend was very positive. They enjoyed having space to come together talk with other adults/mums and would love to have a focus around mums wellbeing/soul filling activities as not a lot out there for mums.

Conversations after our Koru Māmā sessions has been positive, and many people have said that there is indeed a need for this kaupapa. If we are to run these sessions again, we will connect with our key supports/agencies to promote to their clients, and ensure there is a need/gap for us to fill before we begin.

We will explore what is currently running in the community/days/times and plan according to when other groups are not on, and we will explore further funding to allow for sessions that are longer standing, which will allow for consistency and ability to create deeper ongoing connections.
