Training Opportunities

When the HEART Movement was launched many local practitioners had little training on family violence.  The results of the first organisational capacity and collaboration survey showed that only 45 percent of HEART practitioners had completed a family violence training, and that the training had been participated in was delivered by 14 different providers.  The HEART Movement committed to make training available to all its member organisations. Initially HEART provided specific training on family violence, but now delivers on a range of related topics. The Community Change Agents and the member organisations have had a key role in developing these training programmes through participation in regular training needs assessment surveys, focus group discussions and providing individual requests for training.

We work with our training partners to provide a wide range of free training that is open to community as well as professionals on family violence as well as protective factors.  Some of our popular trainings include:

  • Helping Whānau Deal with Grief and Loss

  • Disclosure of Child Sexual Abuse

  • Dealing with Difficult Relationships

  • Harm Minimisation for Alcohol and other Drugs

  • Open and Honest: supporting young people to make great decisions

  • Talking About Anger

  • Affirming Diversity: fundamentals of sexuality and gender identity, how homophobia, transphobia, and discrimination affect people

  • Keeping our Children Safe: Child commercial sexual exploitation
