Puhia te Pū - Community Kapa Haka

We were super excited to kickstart our HEART Project fund for 2025 with the community kapa haka rōpū based at St Mary’s Glen Innes called Puhia te Pū. Our March 2025 allocation was awarded to the group led by Jacob Ripley with Change Agents Joel and Hinemoa Carpenter in support.

Puhia te Pū's purpose is to enable whānau in the community to come along and learn the different ‘iwi anthems’, (waiata and haka) and grow access to Te Āo Māori for Tāmaki. This is something we at HEART are also passionate about for our community and stoked to be able to support!

Puhia te Pū is going well this term, meeting every Thursday evening from 6pm. Whānau who join have a shared meal before doing some ice breakers and then getting into the beautiful and uplifting kaupapa that is kapa haka! The rōpū is currently learning 3x waiata and 1x haka, we are so blessed to have these written by our kaiako Hakopa especially for Puhia te Pū!

Check out the videos of the rōpū learning below,

See more on the Instagram page - www.instagram.com/puhia_te_puu and if you're free on a Thursday night come through to St Mary’s Glen Innes (132 Taniwha St, Glen Innes) - it’s open to all!
