HEART Leadership Course

A key outcome for the HEART Movement is to create effective and active leadership for lead change.

We believe the first step towards leadership is self-awareness, self-care and committing to transforming ourselves. Before we can effectively make change the community, we need to understand ourselves and embark on an inner journey.  The HEART Leadership Process provides that opportunity.

The HEART Leadership Programme acknowledges Tāmaki Inclusive Engagement Strategy (TIES) and the TIES Team (2010) for promoting transformative leadership. TIES provided practical tools and guidelines to develop leadership in the community. The HEART Leadership programme keeps that commitment alive and hopes to be seen as an initiative that contributes to the larger community aspirations around leadership.

The Programme

The HEART Leadership Programme is designed for HEART practitioners, community members involved with HEART, and other local workers and community leaders.  It is an ongoing process focussed on developing reflective practices and diving into an inner journey. The overall process is to:

  • Create a space for respite and self-care.

  • Connect to ourselves and each other.

  • Grow cooperation, support and resilience.

  • Identify, support and build the capability to lead social change.

  • Build connections and partnership among the social change workforce.

  • Increase commitment to long-term leadership journey.

  • Invest in building community and collective leadership, rather than individual leadership.

The Programme is a platform for self-awareness, personal transformation and growth as well to deepen connections with the HEART Movement.

What to bring to the training

We recommend you participate in the training with a:

  • Commitment to attend all sessions.

  • Curiosity and courage for inner exploration.

  • Commitment to the group process.

Facilitators of the programme

The HEART Leadership Programme was jointly developed in collaboration with Lucia Die Gil and Louise Marra.  Lucia is an experienced people and talent consultant, coach, trainer and facilitator - having lived, worked and volunteered in eight countries in five continents.  Lucia’s passion and strengths are in connecting deeply. She worked with the local leaders to co-create the HEART Leadership programme. Louise Marra provided her wisdom and insight in the development process, as well as led the participants through various innovative sessions. Louise Marra has worked within and on conscious leadership and social innovation for some years. She helped set up a cross-departmental social innovation lab for government based in Auckland, and she is the Programme Director for Leadership New Zealand.
